Swanage & Wareham welcomed Swindon College Old Boys to Bestwall for the first time at Bestwall, and Swans took the lead for most of the game, they fell away to a couple of tries in the last ten minutes.
Swans went into an early lead as Stephen Woolley landed a penalty after 7 minutes. The lead did not last long as the visitors replied four minutes later(3pts – 3pts).Swans had most of the play in the first half and a Swindon player was yellow carded. After 28 minutes Swans took the lead again as scrum half Chris Tomes dived over the line following a ruck on the Swindon line. Woolley added the extras(10pts – 3pts).Swans continued on the offensive and after 35 minutes the ball was passed along the three-quarters for returnee centre Charlie Rowberry, back from New Zealand, to score out wide. Woolley added the conversion(17pts – 3pts). However on the point of half time, the visitors made a break down the left and scored a converted try out wide. (17pts – 10pts) at the break.
Swindon came out firing early in the second half and after 46 minutes landed another try in the corner(17pts – 15pts). A penalty took Swans deep into Swindon territory, and after a few phases second row Kirk Jones and dived over the try line close to the posts after 55 minutes. Woolley added the extras(24pts – 15pts). Swans were doing most of the attacking, and from a fluffed clearance from the visitors line, the ball came back to Stephen Woolley on the 22 and he drop kicked a goal taking Swans lead to 27pts – 15pts, after 64 minutes. Swans seemed to be coasting to a victory with 11 minutes to go, but a drive by Swindon had a Swans’ player yellow carded under Swans’ posts. Swindon capitalised and scored a converted try after 75 minutes.(27pts – 22pts). With two minutes to go a break by a visitors centre split the Swans defence and he ran round to score under the posts(27pts – 29pts). In the final minute Swans tried to score but Swindon had the game and were not going to concede any more points. Swans had to be content with a bonus point for being within 7 points of the winners.
