Swanage & Wareham travelled to Merrick Park in Bournemouth for their first visit there for some considerable time.
In the first half early on Oakmeadians had control of the game, putting Swans under severe pressure, but Swan’s defence held firm for the first fifteen minutes. However a penalty put Swans into the hosts 22, and with a move along Swan’s threequarters winger Harry Spyers outpaced his opposite number to
run round to score a try close to the posts. Centre Steve Woolley converted(0pts – 7pts) after 21 minutes.Oakmeadians were not finished as from a penalty they spread the ball out wide and a winger went in at the corner to reduce the deficit to 5pts – 7pts on the half hour mark. Almost from the restart Swans had a scrum in the hosts 22, Swans no.8 picked the ball up and passed to scrum half Lee Hardy who dived over in the corner. Swans were now pressing Oakmeadians backwards and from a line out close to the Oakmeadians line, hooker Craig Foskett was pushed over the try line. Woolley added the extras leaving the half time score at Oakmeadians 5pts Swans 19pts.
Oaks, had a few penalties to put them on the offensive early in the second half, but they could not penetrate into Swans 22. However on 52 minutes Swans had a good move that resulted in a 5 metres scrum. From the scrum Swans pushed the Oaks pack backwards and substitute no 8 Joe Desmond scored Swans bonus point try.(5pts – 24pts). Swans were now on top and on 57 minutes a slick move had Swans centre Matt Roberts racing through to score Swans fifth try. Woolley added the conversion to put the visitors on 31pts. A mistake by Swans in their own 22 enabled Oaks to score another try in the corner giving the hosts 10pts after 66 minutes. By this time Oaks were reduced to 13 fit players and they were playing uncontested scrums. A move Swans along the threequarters line found winger Harry Spyers, unmarked on the left, and he went in for an unconverted try in the corner(10pts – 36pts). As Swans piled on the pressure, the ball was moved out to flanker Kirk Jones who powered his way over the line.
