SWANAGE & WAREHAM 3pts NEWBURY BLUES 21pts

Swanage & Wareham welcomed Newbury, who were third in the league at the commencement, to Bestwall last Saturday, and in a tough encounter, the visitors came out on top.
In a fair exchange at the start of the game, Newbury received a couple of penalties, and after seven minutes the visitors fly half, Ryan Trevaskis landed one to put Newbury 3pts up.Swans were in no way outclassed by the opposition, and Swans made progress into the Newbury 22. However a couple of penalties saw Newbury clear their lines, made progress into Swans half, and on 20 minutes another penalty to Newbury saw Trevaskis land his second penalty (0pts – 6pts). Swans attacked the Newbury line for the next eight minutes, a penalty was awarded to Swans and Swans fly half Phil Graves reduced the arrears to 3pts – 6pts. The rest of the half was evenly fought, with both sides coming close to scoring, but the defences held out, leaving the half time scoreboard 3pts – 6 pts.
The second half started with Swans on the offensive, with a kick to the corner, but after 46 minutes, Newbury broke clear, outpaced the Swans defence and scored a try under the posts.(3pts – 13pts). Swans tried to respond, but the Newbury defence made sure that most Swans attacks could not get over the gain line. Swans gave away another penalty after 55 minutes which once again Trevaskis converted from out wide(3pts – 16 pts) The game turned to almost a stalemate, and Swans suffered some on field injuries, which restricted their abilities. On 65 minutes a scrummage on Swans 5 metre line had the visitors wheeling the scrum pushing Swans off the ball to score a try out wide.(3pts – 21pts). Try as they may Swans could not add to their score, and the final score did not reflect on the effort and commitment that Swans put into the game. Final score Swans 3pts Newbury 21pts.
