Swans travel to Ellingham and Ringwood for their first away game of the season, hoping to improve on their narrow defeat a week earlier. It was a bright and breezy Saturday and Swans where faced by a 30-strong Ringwood side for their first game of the season. Swans to start the game with the wind in their faces, the ball was controlled by the swans pack which dominated the tight through out the game with only line outs letting the side down. At the half-hour mark the Ringwood backs linking up well after a penalty for hands in the ruck managed to find the gap, giving Ringwood's No’8 Will Hill racing over the try line (5-0.) After the restart Swans where straight back in to Ringwood’s territory winning numerous penalties for offside but where unable to capitalise on them with Adam Dagley narrowly missing a penalty kick just to the right of the posts. Time and time again Swans where on the attack putting Ringwood on the back foot. 8 minutes to go before half time, Swans penalty on the Ringwood’s 22, Swans deciding to run it with Craig Peterson calling for the ball and a quick crash ball breaking through 2 tackles before reaching the try line levelling the score (5-5.)
Soon after the restart Swans concede a penalty, Ringwood kick and chase deep in to Swans half, poor tackling and the defence dog-legged Ringwood’s flanker Fred Sampson scores in the corner (10-5.) After the Swans pack dominates the centre of the field with a rolling maul, driving the Ringwood forwards 30 metres back. Chris Harrison controlling the ball at the back finding his fly-half Adam Dagley who quickly presents the ball to Sam Tallick and dives for the try line (10-10.) Straight from the kick off Swans dominated until loosing the ball at a ruck unfortunately for Ringwood the ball was knocked on scrum down just inside the 10 metre line, the Swans pack roared to life driving the Ringwood forwards closer to their own try line, some fantastic work at the back with number 8 Tim Woods scoring for Swans (10-15.)
With only 15 minutes to and Ringwood’s fresh legs on Swans defence was under constante attack until Winger Jonny Owen find the gaps and scores in the Right corner and Scrum Half Mark Burret adding the extras. The Final Whistle Goes Ellingham & Ringwood III 17 – 15 Swanage & Wareham IV. Next game against Wimborne III at home.
