Swans first ever Rugby League game makes National Rugby League newspaper

This was first time ever two teams from the Jurassic Coast county played Rugby League against each other......

Sunday July 3rd 2016, a momentous and ground breaking day for Rugby League. Many will ask why? Was St.Helens high scoring win over a Jacob Miller inspired Wakefield in any way earth shattering? No. How about Leeds, the reigning Super League Champions, confined to the Middle 8’s after a single point defeat to Denis Betts’ Widnes? Considerable yes, hardly historic however, but in Dorset, a virtual no-mans land for the 13 man code, for the first time ever, two teams from the Jurassic Coast county played Rugby League against each other, further evidence that our sport is continuing to develop outside the so-called heartland areas.

The two teams that took part in this significant first were, unsurprisingly, made up mainly of Rugby Union players from Swanage & Wareham RFC and their counterparts, Weymouth & Portland RFC.
