SWANAGE & WAREHAM RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB LTD.
WALCOT 0pts SWANAGE & WAREHAM 22pts
For Swans next game in Southern Counties league, Swans had to travel away to Walcot, a suburb of Bath, with a much changed team suffering from unavalibilities and illness.
In the first ten minutes no side had the advantage with several scrums going to each side. However on twelve minutes Swans had a penalty shot at goal, which went wide. Swans then started to put pressure on the home side, resulting in a penalty to Swans, which Phil Graves put over.(0pts – 3pts).after 19 minutes. In the next ten minutes Walcot won a series of penalties, which put Swans on the back foot, but towards the end of the half Swans were once again on top, but that penalty goal from Swans was the only score of the half.
From the start of the second half, Swans won a penalty which they put onto the Walcot 5 metres line, and from the resulting catch/drive move Swans powered over the line with scrum half Chris Tomes coming up with the ball. From close to the touchline Swans’ fullback Steve Woolley landed the conversion.(0pts – 10pts) after 44 minutes. Apart from one foray into Swans 22, most of the rest of the game was spent in the Walcot half. Swans dominated the scrums and lines out, and it was just a matter of time before they scored again. However Walcot defended gamely and it took until the 58th minute before Swans crossed the line again. Once again it was from a line out catch/drive move from the Walcot 5 metres line and once again it was Chris Tomes who went over the line to score his second try out wide.(0pts – 15 pts). Swans continued to dominate the ball but Walcot continued to frustrate Swans efforts to add to the score. With just four minutes to go a scrum on the Walcot 22 metres line, scrum half Chris Tomes dummied his opposite number, slipped through the defence and went in to score his hat –trick of tries unopposed. Phil Graves added the conversion to put Swans 22 points ahead. In the last two minutes Swans had a chance to snatched the bonus point try, but Walcot denied them leaving the final score Walcot 0pts Swanage & Wareham 22 pts.
