NORTH DORSET 12 SWANS 25
Swans unbeaten league run continues.......
For Swanage & Wareham’s fourth league game of the season, they had to travel away to Slaughtergate, in Gillingham, the home of North Dorset Rugby Club. The victory keeps Swans on top of the league table, with four wins, each with a bonus point, two league points above Sherborne and Walcot.
Swans started attacking from the start, and after four minutes, they won a scrum on the right, passed the ball all along the three-quarters line to winger Charlie Rowberry who went in for Swans first try. Swans continued to put pressure on the home sides defence, such that the North Dorset full back knocked on, Swans pounced, and once again the ball was spun along the Swans’ backs once again for Charlie Rowberry to score Swans second try. Fly half Charlie Parish added the extras putting Swans 12 points up after 11 minutes. Fifteen minutes later the hosts were penalised under their posts, and Charlie Parish landed the penalty. However a series of penalties towards the end of the half against Swans, took the home team into Swan’s 22 and after a few phases North Dorset scored a converted try after 38 minutes. Half time North Dorset 7pts Swanage & Wareham 15pts.
Swans started the second half on the attack, and after 44 minutes, with a scrum on the North Dorset 22, Swans pushed the home side back all the way to the try line, and from the pile up over the line, scrum half Chris Tomes emerged claiming the try(7pts – 20pts). Swans continued to dominate the play, and after a break by Charlie Parish on 56 minutes, he found Swans debutant centre, playing on the wing after an injury to Karl Barton, Fijians Veresa Valehei who collected the ball to score his first try for Swans in the corner. This was Swans fourth try and ensured their bonus point.(7pts – 25pts). Swans should have put more points on the hosts, but they defended well, and with 5 minutes to go North Dorset gained a consolation try in the corner making the final score North Dorset 12 pts Swanage & Wareham 25 pts. Tom Dillon, Swans manager said” I am proud of all the boys, they are starting to play as a unit, with the forwards winning the ball and the backs capitalising, and running in the tries. A great team effort”
