Swans welcomed North Dorset to the Memorial ground at Bestwall on Saturday.....
Swans welcomed North Dorset to the Memorial ground at Bestwall on Saturday, and in a well contested game Swans achieved their fourteenth league win of the season, and retain their 14pts lead at the top of the table.
The visitors started well, putting pressure on Swans early on, and with only three minutes gone, Jay Westcar put North Dorset ahead with a try out wide. Sam Baker converted ( 0pts – 7pts) . However 5 minutes later Swans were on the scoreboard as from a 5 metres scrum a pushover ended with prop forward John Sheldrake scoring. It was close for the next ten minutes, but a penalty by Baker put the visitors 5pts – 10pts in the lead. With 12 minutes to go in the half, full back Callum Baird landed a penalty to reduce the lead to two points. Swans then pressurised the North Dorset defence, centre Matt Roberts made a break passed to scrum half Chris Tomes who crossed the try line. Charlie Parish added the extras to put Swans 15pts – 10pts ahead. There was time before the interval for Charlie Parish to score a remarkable try, as he chipped over the defence on his own 10metres line, collected a favourable bounce to hand, and ran more than 50 metres to score in the corner. He then added the conversion himself, giving Swans a 22pts – 10pts half time lead.
In the first part of the second half Swans were giving away too many penalties, putting North Dorset in the ascendancy. However Swans defence coped and on 55 minutes a move along Swans backs worked the ball out to winger Charlie Rowberry who scored half way out. Parish added the extras putting Swans 29pts – 10pts ahead. 3 minutes later from a well- practiced move from a line out, Swans no.8 Joe Desmond worked his way over the line for a converted try. With 10 minutes to go once again Charlie Rowberry received the ball, outpaced the defence to put Swans 41pts – 10pts up. In the last 6 minutes Swans must have relaxed as North Dorset managed two converted tries before the end of the game leaving the final score Swans 41pts North Dorset 24pts.
