Swans win the toss so Weymouth to get the game underway. After a knock-on at a Weymouth line-out Weymouth scrum on the Swans 22. The Weymouth Backs linking up well and a try 5 metres in (5-0). Swans come back straight down Weymouth’s throats and after some exceptional phases where awarded a penalty for hands in the ruck. The forwards pleading Jon Pugh to kick for touch which he does beautifully finding the corner flag, Swans line-out 5 metre line.
Paul Dagley calling for a quick line out taking Weymouth by surprise the throw hit the mark and the famous Swans maul roars in to action with Craig Peterson claiming the converted try for Swans. (7-5)
10 minutes to go before half time a quick turn over ball by Swans led to the backs moving fluently and releasing Dave Rintoul bursting down the wing for a try in the corner. (12-5) Some scrappy play and a lot of high tackles from Weymouth led to Swans winger Adam Dagley sin binned moments before half time.
Swans get the 2nd half under-way eager to improve on their 7 point lead. After some fierce scrimmaging and rucking Swans find them selves on the Weymouth 22 after a quick ruck J.P found the replacement Ant Hanmer who burst through the Weymouth defence and scored in the far corner. (17-5)
At the half hour mark and some scrappy defending Weymouth managed to drive over the line for their 2nd try between the posts with the converted extras. (17-12)
After some quick phase play Swans again threatened the Weymouth try line, when prop forward Steve Harney found him self on the wing with 5 metres to go but a thumbled ball brought play back for a Weymouth Scrum.
25 minutes to go, Weymouth struggling to keep the ball from the onslaught of the Swans defence, finally managing to break through to score a converted try. (17-19)
With less than 5 minutes to go Swans are awarded a penalty inside their own half from some foul play by Weymouth’s hooker resulting in being shown the yellow card. Kicked down to touch, Swans line-out 5 metres out. Weymouth aware of the danger gather up as much muscle as they can muster but the Swans pack drive over the line as the bodies clear Weymouth some how manage to hold the ball up. Swans scrum 5 metres, a break away by Jon Pugh almost makes it to the try line but forced back, the Referee calls for a Weymouth scrum to the astonishment from the Swans pack. As the final whistle blows the final score is Swans 17 Weymouth 19. Swans IV next match is on the 22nd October Away to Ellingham & Ringwood III.
