Swanage & Wareham welcomed Blandford to Bestwall in what was a game between the two clubs which were relegated from Southern Counties last season.
It was a close game early on, but Swans lost a centre Charlie Parish after 6 minutes, being replaced by James Large. A penalty took Swans into the visitors 22 and from a drive, Blandford dropped the maul on their line and Swans were awarded a Penalty Try.(7 -0) after 11 minutes. Swans were throwing the ball wide and after 22 minutes the ball was fed out to winger Harry Spyers who ran round to score under the posts. Steve Woolley added the conversion(14pts – 0) Three minutes later once again the ball was spread wide to Spyers who went over for Swan’s third try. Swans were playing some brilliant rugby and after 35 minutes from a line out Swans drove Blandford backwards and hooker Craig Foskett, who was making his first team debut scored Swans bonus point try.(24pts – 0pts). There was still time before the interval for flanker Matt Roberts to work his way over the try line close to the posts.Woolley added the conversion making the score 31pts – nil at the break.
Swans started the second period with a break by Matt Roberts who manoeuvred his way over the try line after 43 minutes for a converted try to put Swans 38 pts up. On the hour mark Blandford had a chance to reduce the arrears but missed with a penalty kick. However a mistake by Swans defence set the ball free inside Swans 22 and a Blandford winger was on hand to go over for a converted try(43pts – 7pts).
