Have your say - Image of the Game

It has been a difficult summer for the reputation of rugby for various reasons. A series of high profile disciplinary cases have led to negative media coverage some of which has suggested that issues such as these are widespread in the game. At the RFU we do not believe that is the case but we have a duty to ensure that we are in a position to make that clear and to rebuild the game's reputation. We have set up the Image of the Game Task Group, which I am honoured to chair, and one of our first priorities was to ask all of you in the game to give us your views.

This survey is your opportunity to let us know what you think about these issues, whether you are seeing them in rugby as you know it, what you think about the issues that have been in the media, and how you think those might be addressed. Your feedback on this is vital to enable us to get a real understanding and I would urge you to complete the survey if you are able. Please remember that completing the survey and proving none of these things are an issue is far more valuable to us than not completing it at all. Click  here to go through and start taking the survey.

The survey is open from Saturday 12th September through to close of play on Sunday 27th September although we will be starting analysis of your responses from Monday 21st September so if you were able to submit your thoughts before then it really would be much appreciated.

Yours
John Owen

RBS 6 NATIONS 2010 FIXTURES

The Six Nations Council today announced the schedule of matches for the 2010 RBS 6 Nations Championship, which will kick-off in Dublin on Saturday, 6 February, when Ireland meet Italy. The Championship will conclude in Paris on Saturday, 20 March, when France meet England.

After the success of the Friday night fixture in 2009 - which produced the biggest TV audience of any French game in France and the second highest average TV audience of all 15 games in the 2009 Championship - the Council have decided to host another Friday match, to be played in Cardiff on Friday, 26 February.

Since 2003, the Championship has been entirely broadcast on terrestrial TV and the audience figures have increased dramatically in all of the participating six Nations from 94 million in 2003 up to 125 million in 2009.

The 2010 tournament will celebrate the centenary of the first championship between the five original members.

The 2009 RBS 6 Nations Championship title was in the balance until the last match in Cardiff and it was a nail-biting spectacle which saw Ireland crowned Grand Slam winners for the first time in 61 years.

RFU Logo

For the first time in over 20 years the RFU is carrying out a review of English rugby’s competition structure from national league to community level.

The survey can be found on www.rfu.com/rugbylandscapesurvey.

The survey is your opportunity to take part in this review and have a say on how the RFU can help build a sustainable future for your club and the game.

Please make clear your views on league, cup and county rugby e.g size of leagues, length of season, league rugby v cup rugby, friendly rugby, 7s rugby, club tours, etc.

For clubs at league levels 5 & 6 this is an ideal opportunity to put your views on whether you would like your 2nd XVs to play in the leagues at level 7 or above.

Please encourage all your players and club officials to participate in this survey.
