As I’m sure most of you are aware by now... my long time friend and rugby playing gent , Andy McMinn sadly passed away in the early hours of February 3rd. He had developed a very aggressive cancer of the oesophagus which spread very quickly and caused his kidneys to shut down. Sadly he never had the chance to fight it. He passed as he had lived with strength and dignity and a touch of belligerence!!
I’ve enjoyed playing rugby with Andy for over 30 years. First at Lytchett Minster RFC, then he came over to Swanage & Wareham to improve his game. He got into the first team very early on and enjoyed many years and county cup winning medals at 1st team level. As the years went on he dropped to the 2nds and for the last few years the 3rd XV.
Andy never gave less than his best at any level and never took a backward step on the pitch or indeed in life. He had a deep love and passion for both rugby clubs and will pass on wearing his Swans tie and blazer.
Everybody that knew him, loved, liked and respected him. We all have many favourite stories about him and I know he’ll delight in us telling them all again and again!
He is survived by his loving wife Nicola who has close family and friends to help her through this dreadfully sad time!
So farewell my friend and teammate... I know there will many glasses raised in your memory and honour !!
It is with tears and smiles and laughs that we’ll think of you !!
RIP ANDY MCMINN
Andy's funeral will be 3.30pm on February 23rd at Poole Crematorium. Andy asked for club ties blazers or rugby shirts to be worn if possible. Then after the service for around 5pm at The Foundry Arms in Poole.
