23/02/2010 Swans 1st XV 22 Oakmeadians 13 Report for Swans Rugby

This game was played on Tuesday 23rd February under lights at Bournemouth’s ground at Chapelgate with the winners going on to play Bournemouth in the final later in the season.

Swans were first on the scoreboard as Oaks were penalised for offside and Phil Graves converted to lead 3 – 0. Two minutes later Oaks replied with a penalty themselves It wasn’t until twenty minutes had been played that Swans once again took the lead again as Phil Graves added his second penalty goal. Seven minutes later from a catch and drive move Swans increased their lead as prop forward Olly Andrews forced his way over the try line. Phil Graves added the extras 13 – 3. Swans were now on top especially in the pack and the line outs and again just before the interval Phil Graves added his third penalty goal 16 – 3, but Oaks had time to add a penalty 16 – 6 at half time.

Swans continued to dominate in the second half, keeping the ball away from the Oaks Fijian backs and on 54 minutes were rewarded as Phil Graves put over his fourth penalty kick 19 – 6. With 4 minutes to go one of the Fijians made a break down the wing, but a spectacular try saving tackle by Swans’ fly half Charlie Parish put an end to that attack. However a minute later Oaks scored a converted try 19 – 13. Swans did not panic and as they kept the ball in the forwards once again Oaks were caught offside and Phil Graves added his fifth penalty goal to give Swans the final place against Bournemouth with this 22pts – 13pts victory
