Swanage & Wareham welcomed Warminster in this Dorset /Wilts Senior Vase Semi- Final to Bestwall last Saturday.
The game was even for the first ten minutes, with both sides conceding early penalties. However five minutes later a move by Warminster three-quarters had a winger running round to score under the posts.(0pts – 7pts). Almost from the restart Swans were on the visitors try line, and from a line out on the 5 metres line Swans powered over the line with prop forward Nick Audley claiming the score out wide.(5pts -7pts).Another attack by Warminster, after 25 minutes had the winger running wide to score the visitors second converted try(5pts – 14pts).Swans battled back, despite losing several players to injuries, and with 5 minutes to go to the break a determined move by scrum half Lee Hardy had him scoring Swans second try. Woolley hit the posts with the attempted conversion. Half Time Swans 10pts Warminster 14 pts.
Early in the second half, the referee pulled up with a leg injury, and the game was held up while he consulted with the official on an adjoining pitch. The game continued with another referee taking charge. After 48 minutes Warminster added a converted try taking the score to 10pts – 21pts. Swans were trying to reduce the arrears but handling mistakes were prevalent and the visitors defence held firm. Swan’s injuries woes continued and they were reduced to 14 fit players with 12 minutes to go. Soon after that Warminster scored another try in the corner and just before the final whistle Warminster added a fifth try to make the final score Swans 10pts – Warminster 33pts.
