1st XV v Maidenhead

Maidenhead 34 Swans 24

Swanage & Wareham travelled away to Maidenhead, and after a sticky start to the game, and having got used to the artificial surface, Swans made a remarkable recovery in the second half, such that they picked up their first bonus point of the season.
After only two minutes, a pin point kick ahead by the Maidenhead fly half, found his winger, he passed into his centre’s hands and the hosts were 7pts – nil ahead. Swans settled down and it was not until the 20th minute that Swans went further behind when Maidenhead slotted a penalty goal. Near to the end of the first half, Swans were attacking the hosts line, but a breakaway from their own lines saw Maidenhead run 90 metres for a converted try.(17pts – nil). Almost from the restart Maidenhead broke clear once again for another converted try making the half time score Maidenhead 24pts Swans nil.
Two minutes into the second half, a line out ball on the Maidenhead 22, had Swans putting the ball through the hands of the three-quarters, out to wing Lewis Price who scored Swans first try in this league. Six minutes later Maidenhead forced their way over Swans line to give them a 29pts – 5pts lead. As the game progressed Swans put the Maidenhead defence under pressure, and on 53 minutes Swans broke through, with replacement winger Callum Young going in for Swans’ second try. Freddie Strange added the extras. Once again as Swans were attacking, a mistake found Maidenhead breaking clear again to score out wide. With Swans mounting pressure on the home team, with ten minutes to the final whistle once again the ball went out along Swans backs out to winger Lewis Price scored his second try of the game to take the score to 34pts – 17pts. With only moments to go to the end of the game Swans’ scrum half Chris Tomes worked his way over the try line to give Swans their four try bonus point. Freddie Strange added the conversion to make the final score Maidenhead 34pts Swanage & Wareham 24pts.
