1st League Win of the season !!

SWANAGE & WAREHAM RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB LTD.

SWANAGE & WAREHAM 15pts READING 12pts
Swanage & Wareham rugby club, at last managed a victory, against fellow strugglers Reading, but Swans left it late to secure this win.
With both teams requiring a win, the game got off to a wary start, with both sides making mistakes in the first twenty minutes, with neither team in the ascendancy. However a penalty to Reading put them inside the Swans 22, a slick move by the visitors put one of their centres in for an easy try after 23 minutes. This was converted giving Reading a 7pts advantage. They should have increased their lead with a penalty attempt but it drifted wide. Swans started to put pressure on the visitors, took advantage of a penalty to the Reading 5 metres line, and from the resulting line out they managed a classic catch/drive move to force a try out wide after 35 minutes. Second row forward Darren Penney came up with the ball. The conversion was missed leaving the half time score Swans 5pts Reading 7pts.
Early in the second half a series of penalties put Reading into the hosts 22 metres line, but solid defence kept the visitors at bay. Swans countered, but after 65 minutes another penalty took Reading once again deep into Swanage territory, and from a drive Reading scored a try out wide.(5pts – 12pts). With time running out it looked like Swans were going down once again, but on 75 minutes a couple of penalties saw Swans inside the Reading 5 metres line. Once again a Swans catch/drive move had prop forward Nick Audley powering over the line to bring Swans within two points of the visitors at 10pts – 12pts. From the restart Swans forced their way back into the Reading 22, and from a maul in the last minute, the ball was moved to Swans centre Matt Roberts, who shrugged off a couple of tackles to force his way over the try line.(15pts – 12pts). The conversion was missed, but Reading only had time to kick off again before the final whistle was greeted with a great cheer from the 150 or so spectators.
