SWANAGE & WAREHAM 24pts WALCOT 24pts
Swanage & Wareham rugby club welcomed Walcot to Bestwall last Saturday and after Swans taking the lead for most of the game let the game slip away from them in the last ten minutes.
Swans were off the mark after only two minutes, when with a scrum ten metres from the visitors line, they won the ball and a few phases after the ball went to Swans no.8 who scored out wide.(5pts – nil). Walcot came back after ten minutes with a penalty goal to reduce the arrears. Swans had most of the play in the first period, and after 31 minutes a quickly tap penalty in front of the Walcot posts had flanker Matt Roberts getting close to the line, passing to Kirk Jones who went in for his second try. David Elford added the extras(12pts – 3 pts) which was the half time score.
Swans made several substitutions at half time, and soon Swans were pressing the Walcot line. A penalty took Swans into the Walcot 5 metres line after 48minutes, and with a catch/drive move Swans hooker Robert Elford powered over the line. David Elford added the conversion (19pts – 3pts). Swans consolidated their lead 6 minutes later, as another catch/drive move had the ball moved out to fly half Jake Warren who scored a try out wide.(24pts-3pts). Walcot were not dismayed by the score and after 65 minutes a breakaway was not contained by Swans and Walcot scored under the posts.(24pts -10pts). With ten minutes to go Swans lost a player to a yellow card, and from the resulting penalty Walcot spread the ball wide and the winger ran round to score near the posts. This was converted 24pts – 17pts. With a man down Swans were in trouble, and two minutes before the end Walcot scored out wide. The conversion completed the scoring giving the 24 pts-24pts draw. The result gave Swans 3 league points having scored 4 tries, to Walcot’s 2 league points.
