SWANAGE & WAREHAM RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB LTD.
SWANAGE & WAREHAM 38pts DORSET DOCKERS 22pts.
Swans welcomed Dorset Dockers to the Memorial Ground at Bestwall for the first time ever for a 1st XV clash. Although Swans dominated the early exchanges the Dockers came back early in the second half to put up a creditable performance.
After some early exchanges Swans powered their way into the Docker’s 22, and following a scrum Swans’ hooker Robert Elford worked his way over the Docker’s try line after 6 minutes. Phil Graves added the extras. Swans gave away a series of penalties enabling the Dockers to get within range and full back Chester Clough landed a penalty goal after 16 minutes.(7pts – 3pts). Four minutes later Swans won a penalty to the corner, and from a catch/drive move scrum half Chris Tomes dummied his way over the line. Phil Graves added the conversion.(14pts – 3pts). Swans were pushing the Dockers pack backwards at the scrums, and were taking the ball at will, which proved vital in the 35th minute as from a scrum 10 metres out, Swans pushed the
Dockers back over their line with Swans no.8 Kirk Jones getting the touchdown. Graves added the extras as Swans went into the break leading by 21pts – 3pts.
Early in the second half Swans were reduced to 14 players as flank forward Joe Desmond was yellow carded for an infringement. Dockers made use of the advantage and after 47 minutes, a smart move enabled Chester Clough to score a try in the corner, to reduce Swans lead to 21pts – 8pts. As Swans were attacking the Dockers line five minutes later a huge kick downfield had everybody scrambling for the ball with the Dockers getting there first to score a try under the posts,(21pts – 15pts). With Swans returning to 15 players the Swans took control again and on the hour mark as Swans were in the Dockers 5 metres line, a couple of scrums later with the Dockers infringing constantly the referee awarded Swans a penalty try. Graves added the conversion(28pts – 15pts). With ten minutes to go once again Swans were pushing the Dockers pack backwards in the 5 metres line and this time Joe Desmond was on hand to score out wide.(33pts-15pts). Three minutes Docker centre Dan Mallard broke clear, and ran 70 metres to score a try close to the posts. Clough added the conversion.(33pts – 22pts). However Swans were not finished and in the last minute a move all along Swans three-quarters, with the ball being sent out to winger Callum Young to score in the corner,
leaving the final score at Swanage & Wareham 38pts Dorset Dockers 22pts.
