​​Swanage & Wareham welcomed old friends and rivals to Bestwall last Saturday, and after a thrilling first half, Swans fell away in the second half.
​​As the two sides summed out their rivals early on, Wimborne were first on the scoreboard as wing forward Nathan Warren powered his way over the try line.(0pts – 5 pts). Swans responded with a penalty to the corner and from a catch/drive move Swans second row Dan Collins went over the line. Full back Steve Woolley converted(7pts – 5 pts) after 12 minutes. Wimborne came back at Swans, with a penalty to the corner, a catch/drive move had No. 8 Ed Carter scoring a try . Tom Moysey converted.(7pts – 12pts). Almost immediately Moysey kicked to make the score 7pts – 15pts after 20 minutes. From the kick off Swans attacked the Wimborne line, and after a few phases Swans captain and prop forward John Sheldrake went through to score. Steve Woolley converted bringing Swans back to 14pts – 15pts after 25 minutes. The play was pretty even for the next ten minutes, but Swans were penalized after 36 minutes and Moysey slotted the kick giving the half time score Swans 14pts Wimborne 18pts.
​Swans were attacking the Wimborne line early in the second half and a Wimborne player was yellow carded for a high tackle. Swans were given a penalty after 52 minutes which Woolley converted(17pts – 18pts). Swans continued with the advantage but on 62 minutes as Swans were on the Wimborne line Moysey intercepted and ran 80 metres to score under the posts.(17pts – 25pts). Swans defence failed when a kick ahead had Wimborne centre Olly Hammer retrieved the ball and ran in unopposed to score. Moysey added the conversion(17pts – 32pts)after 68 minutes. Swans maintained pressure but could not score,, and with 3 minutes to go Wimborne had a penalty which put them into Swans 22, and from a scrum Wimborne’s flank forward worked his way over the try line for a converted try. Final Score Swans 17pts Wimborne 39pts.
