NORTH DORSET 33pts SWANAGE & WAREHAM 35pts
Swans travelled to Slaughtergate, the home of North Dorset, with a weakened team due to injuries and unavailabilities, fielding three colts, and after an uncertain start, Swans came back to win the game with the last kick of the game.
Playing against a considerable breeze, Swans were on the defensive from the start, and it was no surprise that the home side scored a try after 15 minutes. North Dorset continued to put pressure on Swans and a winger ran through to score under the posts 5 minutes later(12pts – nil). Swans retaliated, but a mistake led North Dorset to clear their lines. However on 30 minutes, another thrust by the hosts had another converted try conceded by Swans(19pts – nil). In the last ten minutes it was all Swans on the attack. From a line out on the hosts 5 metres line a catch/drive move had Swans hooker for the day John Sheldrake powering over the line. On 37 minutes a clean break had Swans full back Karl Barton racing clear down the touchline to score in the corner.(19pts – 10pts). On the stroke of the interval Swans were awarded a penalty on the 22, which fly half Steve Woolley slotted leaving the half time score North Dorset 19pts Swanage & Wareham 13pts.
With the wind, Swans dominated play early in the second half, and from a penalty to the corner a catch/drive move was on the cards. Swans did so, only for the ball to come out to winger Isaiah Bob who dived over the try line in the corner.(19pts – 18pts) after 50 minutes. North Dorset countered with a cross field kick which found a winger completely unmarked, and he ran in a converted try under the posts on the hour mark.(26 – 18). However four minutes later Swans reduced the lead to a point again as scrum half Chris Tomes worked his way over the line, with Steve Woolley converting.(26pts – 25pts). With less than ten minutes left, Swans looked to have lost the game when North Dorset broke clear as a centre ran in a try under the posts(33pts – 25pts). Swans were not to be denied and a slick move had fly half Steve Woolley running down the left wing to score in the corner. From wide out Woolley converted his try to bring the scores to one point again at 33pts – 32pts, with 2 minutes left on the clock. Swans powered forward from the restart putting pressure on the hosts, and from this pressure North Dorset conceded a penalty in front of the posts. Steve Woolley duly converted giving Swans victory by 33pts – 35pts as the referee called time after the conversion.
