SWANAGE & WAREHAM 15pts FROME 17pts
Frome Rugby Club were the latest Club to visit Bestwall in the Southern Counties league.
In the opening exchanges Swans were on top, driving forward, but after ten minutes a break by the Frome three – quarters led to a try under the posts, much against the run of the play. This was converted (0pts – 7pts). The play was even for the next ten minutes, but a penalty put Swans into the visitors 22, and as Swans aimed for a catch/drive move the ball came back to fly half Stephen Woolley who from the 22 calmly drop- kicked a goal.(3pts – 7pts). Three minutes later a break by a Swans flank forward, moved the ball to No. 8 Joe Desmond who ran in unopposed for Swans to take the lead. Woolley added the extras (10pts – 7) after 25 minutes. However from a kick ahead by Swans, Frome’s left winger collected the ball, ran across the field, avoiding Swans efforts to tackle him and made it to score a converted try after 32 minutes (10pts – 14pts at the break.
After the break it was all Swans early on, and a penalty took them to with 5 metres of the Frome try line. With a catch/drive move scrum half Chris Tomes scored Swans try to put the home side 15pts – 14pts ahead after 47 minutes. Frome then seemed to take control as their forwards with several phases of pick and drive, such that Swans could not get their hands on the ball. Swans defence was up to the task and when they were in possession kicked the ball away and Frome started their drives once again. After 75 minutes Frome were awarded a penalty outside of Swans 22 and the visitors kicked the penalty to lead by 15pts – 17pts. Swans threw everything at the opposition in the last five minutes, but Frome held on for the victory leaving Swans with a losing bonus point.
