SWANAGE & WAREHAM 20pts YEOVIL 15pts
Swanage and Wareham welcomed Yeovil to Bestwall last Saturday and in a tight game Swans managed to achieve their third win of the season.
In the early part of the game Swans gave away a couple of penalties putting the visitors inside Swans 22. Another penalties close to Swans’ line had the Yeovil scrum half taking the tap penalty quickly, and with an overlap Yeovil scored the first try of the game out wide after just six minutes of play. The conversion was missed(0pts – 5pts). Almost from the restart Swans moved down into the visitors 22 and a penalty inside the 22 had Stephen Woolley converting to make the score 3pts – 5pts. Most of the play was disjointed as numerous penalties were awarded to both sides and no side had any advantage. However from one of these penalties Swans winger Conrad Phillips went down the right wing, the ball went through several Swans hands out to Swans other winger Harry Spyers who from 30 or so metres outpaced the Yeovil defence to score in the corner. Woolley added the extras from out wide to give Swans a 10pts – 5pts lead after 27 minutes. 5 minutes later as Swans got into the Yeovil 22 they were awarded a penalty which Steve Woolley put over.(13pts – 5pts). In the last two minutes of the half the referee awarded two yellow cards to Swans players, meaning Swans had to start the second half with just 13 men. Half time score Swans 13pts Yeovil 5pts.
Swans managed to survive the ten minutes of the second half without any score against them and a penalty took Swans inside the visitors 22. From a scrum and following a few phases, Swans found prop forward Zach Wyburgh who used his power to get over the Yeovil line, close to the posts. Woolley added the extras putting Swans ahead by 20pts – 5pts after 50 minutes. In the next ten minutes Swans gave away a series of penalties, putting Yeovil into Swans’ territory and from one of these Yeovil forced a try after 62 minutes to bring them 10pts. The play was pretty even for the last twenty minutes, with once again it was disjointed with a series of penalties. However with two minutes to go Yeovil forced a try half way out taking the score to 20pts- 15pts, but the conversion was missed leaving that as the final score.
