Swans continued to lead the table in Dorset/Wilts 1 with this emphatic victory over Oakmeadians at Bestwall last Saturday.
After a couple of penalties to each side, from a scrum on the Oakmeadians 22, the ball was passed through Swans three quarters, and with full back Karl Barton coming into the line, he found an overlap to score close to the posts. Fly half Steve Woolley added the extras(7 – nil) after ten minutes.The game was evenly contested for the next ten minutes, but a penalty to Swans took them into the Oaks 22 and from the line out the ball was worked to centre Matt Roberts who cruised through a gap for Swans 100th try of the season. Oaks were playing well and putting pressure on Swans, but from Swans 22 the ball was cleared to Swans’ centres, worked out to winger Harry Spyers, beat his opposite number and scored in the corner.(19pts – nil) after 25 minutes. Swans were on top now and put Oaks under pressure and after several phases inside the Oaks 5 metres line the ball eventually was worked to winger Harry Spyers who crossed the try line for his second try of the game and Swans bonus point score.Woolley added the extras - (26pts – nil) this was the half time score.
Almost from the restart, Swans were on the attack, and from a scrum on the Oaks 5 metres line, Steve Woolley crossed the try line half way out(31pts – nil). Swans continued to pressurise the Oaks defence and from a mistake by Oaks in their 22, the ball was worked out to Swans’ other winger, Lee Hardy, who crossed the try line in the corner(36pts – nil). Just after the hour mark another Swans penalty took them into the Oaks 22 and after a couple of phases Staeve Woolley was surprised to find a way through tha Oaks defence to score under the posts.(43pts – nil). Swans appeared to relax and a couple of penalties to Oaks took them into the Swans 22 and after a few phases Oaks scored in the corner with 5 minutes to go.(43 pts – 5pts).With the last play of the game, a breakaway from the half way line by Oaks resulted in a try under the posts taking the final score to Swans 43pts – 12pts
