Swanage & Wareham continued their hoped for recovery from last weeks defeat, in Southern Counties(south) away at Corsham. However, after a good start, Swans let in Corsham, and they sneaked a win in the dying seconds of the match.

Swans started well, and after only four minutes Phil Graves put them ahead with a penalty goal. Swans continued to dominate the play, and after a fine break by scrum half Chris Tomes, he unloaded the ball to second row Dave Burgess who went in for a try from the Corsham’s 22 metres line after 10 minutes.(0pts – 8pts to Swans). Corsham came back into the game after 25 minutes when the hosts fullback went in for a try in the corner. The fly half converted (7pts – 8 pts). Swans made the home side work hard in defence and after 38 minutes were rewarded with a practiced move, as Daffyd Wright made a break, and captain and hooker Rob Elford was on hand to score another try in the corner. Half Time Corsham 7pts Swans 13pts.

Early in the second half Swans went further ahead as from a scrum close to the Corsham posts, as the ball came out Swans scrum half Chris Tomes was on hand to touch the ball down. Phil Graves added the extras(7pts – 20pts). Five minutes later Corsham reduced the arrears with a penalty goal. As Swans continued to press forward, inside the hosts 22 after 52 minutes, they were rocked back as centre for Corsham , Chris Ferris, intercepted on his own 22 metres line and went almost the full length of the field to score under the posts.(17pts – 20pts). On the hour mark Swans went further ahead with a penalty goal by Phil Graves, but, after a Swans prop forward was yellow carded, a break by a Corsham wing forward with only a few seconds to go resulted in a try to the home side in the corner.(22pts – 23 pts). However as Swans waited, the conversion was good, resulting in a win for Corsham by 24pts – 23pts, with Swans having to settle for the losing bonus point.
