SWANS 55 CORSHAM 3
Swans get good win against Corsham at home...........
Swanage & Wareham welcomed our visitors, Corsham, on their first visit to Bestwall, and on a brilliant bright winters day the spectators witnessed an exhilarating game, but having lost to Corsham away earlier in the season by 1pt, Swans were determined to avenge that defeat.
Swans nearly scored in the first two minutes, but the official ruled the ball was held up over the try line. However the hosts continued to press forward, and a smart piece of work by scrum half Jake Warren sent fly half Charlie Parish clear for a converted try after ten minutes. Three minutes later Corsham put themselves on the scoreboard as fly half Rory Auld landed a penalty goal(7pts – 3pts). A penalty to Swans took them to within 5 metres of the visitors line, and from the catch/drive move the ball was worked out to winger Charlie Rowberry who scored in the corner after twenty minutes. Six minutes later Corsham fumbled the ball close to their own posts, and Jake Warren was on hand to touch the ball down. Parish added the extras (19pts-3pts). Corsham countered, but the ball went clear to Swans second row Dan Collins, who broke clear from inside his own 5 metres line, passed the ball to winger Alex Parry who made ground and set flank forward Will Corsie clear, to score close to the posts. Parish added the conversion. Half time score Swans 26pts Corsham 3pts.
At half time Charlie Rowberry retired with a thigh injury and Karl Barton replaced him, and he made an immediate impact on the game, as after 46 minutes a Swans three-quarters move, from scrum half all along the line to Barton, who touched down in the corner. Swans continued to press, and whenever Corsham had the ball, Swans defence held firm, and at most of the breakdowns Swans seemed to turn the ball over. On 63 minutes another try was scored by wing forward Daffyd Wright close to the posts which was converted by Charlie Parish(38pts – 3pts). From a kick ahead down to Swans 22, full back Darren Wilcox went clear, Swans worked the ball along the backs, out again to Wilcox who put Barton in for his second try this time out wide.. With 8 minutes to go, from a line out on the Corsham 5 metre line, a typical catch/drive move had hooker Robert Elford powering his way over the line, taking Swans up to 48pts. Swans passed the 50pts mark with the last move of the game, as from a scrum, Warren passed to Parish who dummied his way over the line for his second converted try, leaving the final score Swanage & Wareham 55pts Corsham 3pts.
