Swanage & Wareham rugby club visited Bradford –on Avon for the first time ever, and came away from there with a comfortable victory.

Swanage & Wareham rugby club visited Bradford –on Avon for the first time ever, and came away from there with a comfortable victory.

From the very first scrum, Swans were dominant, and from this the ball was passed along the three-quarters to winger Charlie Rowberry who touched down in the corner after only 90 seconds. From the restart Bradford were awarded a penalty on Swans 22, but the kicker pulled it wide. Swans doubled their lead as full back Callum Baird came into the line, causing an overlap, to score out wide after ten minutes. Six minutes later he once again came into the line, but this time he moved the ball out to Rowberry who scored under the posts. Baird added the extras putting Swans 0- 17 ahead. After 20 minutes from a scrum 5 metres out Swans pushed the Bradford pack backwards with hooker, Robert Elford, returning from a six weeks lay -off due to injury, claiming the try. With half an hour gone, Rowberry picked up the ball from a scrum inside Swans half, shrugged off several tacklers, to score a solo try, his third of the day.(0pts – 27pts). Five minutes before the interval, a move along Swans backs had Rowberry breaking clear, but passed the ball to second row Will Corsie who went in for his debut try forSwans this season. Baird added the extras. Half time Bradford 0pts Swanage & Wareham 34pts.

It only took five minutes of the second half before Charlie Rowberry added a fourth try on the day making the score 0pts – 41 as Charlie Parish added the conversion. From the restart Bradford moved into Swans 22, and from a tackle the ball went forward, Swans stopped, but Bradford scored under the posts, which was converted.(7pts – 41pts). Swans were dominating the set pieces and after 56 minutes a catch/drive move had once again Robert Elford going in for the converted try.(7pts – 48pts). With twelve minutes to go Charlie Parish worked his way over the try line out wide, and to cap his performance, with four minutes to go Charlie Rowberry added his fifth try in the corner to give Swans a 7pts – 58pts victory.

Even better news came through that Frome had beaten Sherborne, who are second in the league, so this result giving Swans an eleven point lead at the top of the table.
