In their latest league game, Swanage & Wareham welcomed Sherborne, who are third placed in the Southern Counties(South) league, to the Memorial ground at Bestwall, last Saturday.

In the first minute Swans were awarded a penalty, which fly half, Charlie Parish put into the corner. From the line out the ball was moved back to Parish, who dummied his way over the try line under the posts. Parish converted (7pts – nil) Five minutes later, the referee signalled another penalty to Swans, but play continued, the ball came to Parish who calmly landed a drop goal. However, the visitors came back at Swans, as the hosts were giving away a series of penalties at the breakdowns. Sherborne tried kicking from long range, three times, all which missed before centre Tom Lane landed one after 20 minutes. He landed another one two minutes later taking the score to 10pts – 6pts. After 28 minutes another penalty took Swans to the Sherborne 5 metres line, and from the line out No.8 Joe Desmond powered his way over the line out wide. A quickly taken free kick was moved out to winger Charlie Rowberry who rounded the defence to score his 33rd try this season. Parish added the extras giving Swans a 22pts -6pts half time lead.

Early in the second half Sherborne added another penalty by Lane, but ten minutes into the half a break by Rowberry and full back Callum Baird set up scrum half Chris Tomes to score a converted try close to the posts(29pts – 9pts). Once Swans had scored the bonus point try they decided to bring on three substitutes, and in Swans next attack one of these, who had only been on the park for two minutes, Jesse Scott was on hand to score a try made by Todd Stephens, another replacement.(34pts – 9pts). On 70 minutes from a scrum the ball was passed to Parish who went in for his second try of the match which he converted himself.(41pts – 9pts). Sherborne, who never stopped trying, with 4 minutes to go played the ball all along their backs, to winger Matt Bray who worked his way over the try line out wide, to give Sherborne their 14 pts. Final Score Swanage & Wareham 41pts Sherborne 14pts, still leaving Swans 17 pts ahead at the top of the table.
