Swans at Dorchester today

Hat trick for Ferguson

Swans played their first game on the road with a squad of 18. It was a sunny day ideal for fast rugby although for the first 20 minutes there was no score on either side. Swans were plagued with injuries with Charlie Joynt having a lump on the head and Lewis Allen having to sit out the game with a large collision closing his eye completely. Chris Mackintosh and Sam Watts were strait off the bench and into the action sooner than they were expecting but set to the task well with Sam taking on the hooking duties.

There was a big battle at the ruck and scrum with Dorchester using their well drilled forwards to spoil the ball for the Swans scrum half George Graves. Dorchester opened the scoring with a penalty and the game was tight for the rest of the first half, from a quick penalty George Parr and Finn Watkins linked to put Rory Ferguson away in the corner. Steve Woolley missed the conversion from the touch line so the score stayed at 3-5 till half time.

After half time Swans forwards looked keener and took the ball from the kick off with close control. and following a number of quick rucks, the ball was passed to the backs with Chris Mackintosh making his colts debut pulling in two defenders and passing to Jacob Cummings on the wing who ran in the try. Charlie Gynes made his debut at 15 with Swans rotating the squad before moving into the fly half position while Steve W took over from George Graves at 9 following his hard work around the scrum and breakdown. Watkins, Constantinidi, Parr, Moore and Hocking took the ball on into contact and the tackling was more effective putting pressure on through a great set up from the line out and despite great defense Sam Watts went over the line at the fourth drive. Dorchester lost their number 8 and Swans took the advantage with Rory taking his second try. Finally Swans closed out the game despite a late try from Dorchester with the third try for Rory Ferguson.

Lots to build on in a greatly encouraging performance.
