Swans win tough Plate final at Weymouth
10-34 Win for Swans U17's
Swans U17 traveled to Weymouth to play in the final of the U17 Plate. Luckily the misty rain stayed away and allowed a tough fought game to go ahead.
Swans U17 we bolstered by some U16 players who had already won in the morning cup game v Oakmeadians.
The first half was very even with both teams finding their feet. Mistakes from both sides broke any continuity. Weymouth had a very strong front row in the scrum and used their big carriers to take the ball on om the loose. Great tackling from the whole team kept the opposition out though. A Swans driven maul from a clean line out take from Alex on the 22 was joined by some backs as it gained momentum before the ball was knocked on over the line as a Weymouth player stripped the ball at the last moment. Again Weymouth came back, again Tackling from the whole team was massive, Finn, Alex & Charlie driving the forwards backwards. From a turn over the swans forwards got over the ball and secured fast ball, Steve passed a fast ball to Barnaby at 10, who ran to the line, off loading a short ball to Chris who cut through the backs then showed great pace to run round the full back for a try. Steve missed the conversion in the strong cross wind.
From the kick off the match continued in the same vein with no team having dominance, great defense, from Jacob, turning a tackle into a turnover then a break down the wing, but was halted short. Weymouth came back again and after attacking into the Swans 22 then spun the ball wide, and despite the tackles had more width and the winger sidestepped his way over the try line. The conversion was missed. Half time and 5 all.
