Tight Clash on the road for the Colts
Trowbridge Colts win tight clash
The colts traveled to Trowbridge for a Saturday double header fixture with the 1XV, on a day that proved valuable for everyone involved.
Kicking off before the 1xv at 13.30 the colts featured some U17 boys who were out to make a point in their first U18 start. From the whistle, both sides looked impressive in defence, tackling well and holding lines. Miles playing at 8 carried the ball well making space for the backs who moved the ball wide but the drift of the opposition kept them from scoring.
Lewis threw well into the lineout which worked well with Charlie and Finn taking all of their own ball and challenging on the opposition throw. It was a good welcome back for Ryan at 6 who tackled everything on the blind and joined Charlie, Ruan and Jack with strong leg tackles allowing George, Finn H and Miles to turnover lots of ball. George had a hard day in the front row against a very strong opposite number but did not give in until he was sidelined late in the game with a leg injury, when Jack moved from hooker to prop. Will did better on the tight head although the scrum could not hold their ground, something to work hard on at training. Half time was 3-0 to Trowbridge.
In the second half, the forwards gave good ball to Logan who is improving with every game to spin out to Steve, Finn and Harry who tested the defence again and again, there was little space for the wingers Callum and Conrad to go forward. Jacob made good yards returning the ball from fullback with Finn on his shoulder winning the ball at rucks. Finn W carried strongly in the center all game, breaking the line and one carry led to a ruck deep in the red zone where Trobridge came offside. Steve made good the pressure in the with a well-taken penalty but Swans could not finish any of their visits to the opposition 22 with a try. In the end, Trowbridge pressure led to their winger breaking away for a converted try and with 5 minutes remaining they closed out the game.
Much to take from this friendly game, attitude, commitment but finishing needs to be worked on if we are to win.
