Swanage & Wareham vs Blandford U14
Despite the scoreline the Game was a hard fought encounter!
Swans kicked off and right from the start Blandfords intention was clear to see and that it was to attack.
From the 4th phase of the Blandford attack it saw them get to the Swans 10m line, but some solid tackling from Jo and James saw Swans gain possession from the loose ball and the Swans 3/4s then attacked the broken field in front of them, which ended in Swans scoring their first try 7-0.
From the restart Swans were on the front foot with both the forwards and 3/4s finding gaps in the Blandford defence, this allowed Swans run in there second try from inside their own half 14-0.
Blandford kicked off and from the resulting sequence of play a knock on brought the first scrum of the game. Good scrummaging from the Swans pack and good pressure from Martin lead the ball to go loose and again with the Swans 3/4s with the ball and a broken defence in front of them led Swans to go in for their 3rd try 19-0.
With Swans going in for their 3rd try this woke Blandford up and from the restart kept Swans on their own 22m line with some hard tackles going in. With one of these tackles leading to the 2nd scrum of the game. Again the Swans scrum had the Blandford pack on the back foot and the ball coming loose out the back of the scrum and Martin winning the race to the loose ball and then with good vision in drawing the defender and passing behind the second are led to the forwards going half the length of the pitch to score 26-0.
Again from the restart Swans managed to find space out wide to score from their own half 33-0.
With the ball being kicked deep from the kick off and going to Ethan at fullback (Welcome Ethan and outstanding first game with Swans), who ran the ball straight back at the oncoming Blandford defence from the 4 phases of play Swans got the ball wide to go round the Blandford defence and go in underneath the posts 40-0 HT.
Swans brought on their 2nd débutante Arda, in at second row. Well done Arda, a great first game of rugby!
With Blandford kicking off the 2nd half, from the outset they were pressing the Swans attack with more speed and aggression. There was less space for the Swans to attack and they reverted back to a more forward orientated style of play with Martin nipping around the sides of rucks and mauls keeping the Swans pack going forward.
This style of play saw great interlinking of passes between the forwards and some cutting lines from Troy, with Ryan managing to get the attack in behind the Blandford defence, with the ball again being passed out wide letting Swans go in for their try 45-0.
The restart saw the ball being kicked deep into the Swans half and Swans having to continue with the forwards game and slowly work their way back up the pitch, with the front row Harry, Josh and Henry all making inroads in the Blandford defence with one of these inroads allowing the forwards to cross for their next try 50-0.
From the kick off the ball got caught by Jonny at flyhalf which saw him weave his way through the Blandford defence for Swans next try 55-0.
With the ball going long again from the restart, Swans again hard to work their way up the pitch. This was not easy as Blandford were putting in some good hard tackles, but Swans kept plugging away and the forwards drew in enough defenders for the 3/4s to find the space on the wing to get their next try 62-0.
Swans were camped on their own 10m line with some good defence from Blandford keeping Swans pegged in their own half. Also from a couple of turnovers Blandford looked dangerous in attack, with some good tackles from James, Joe and Olly preventing them getting any further than the Swans 22. From one of these Blandford attacks Swans counter attacked and went in for their penultimate try 67-0.
Blandford restarted the game within the last 5 mins of the game Swans attacked going for one last try which they succeeded in getting, for the whistle to be blown and the final score 72-0.
Well done lads a great team display!!
Well done and welcome to Arda and Ethan, hoped you enjoyed your first game with Swans.
