Swans VS Bridport
By Mathew Peters
Swans were hoping to carry on in the same style as the week before.
Swans welcomed George Jonny and Ben back from injury and unavailability.
Swans kicked off and from the out set they knew this was a different game from the week before. With Bridport happy to run the ball straight back at the Swans and using their backs to attack the Swans out wide.
With Swans defence holding firm and great tackles coming from James and Ben preventing Bridport to gain any great yards.
A line out on the halfway line was the Swans first chance to attack and they took their chance with the forwards driving in from the line out into the Bridport half for then a quick ball being released down the 3/4s with each player standing up their opposite number to create the space for George to use his pace and round his opposite number and score 5-0.
With Swans growing in confidence Swans attacked from the restart with Jonny using great footwork to get the Swans into the Bridport 22 and with Benjamin in support got stopped short of the line but with the front row in support Henry was able to power his way over the line out wide 10-0.
Swans now had their tails up and were taking the game to Bridport from a ruck on the halfway line Swans got the ball out wide to George who with a good side step and hit the after burners, outpaced the winger and covering fullback to go round underneath the posts 17-0.
Swans received the ball from the restart and the next 5 mins play didn't deviate much from the centre third of the pitch but a good break from Ryan got the Swans towards the Bridport 22 and a miss pass in the centres got the ball quickly to George on the wing who got the ball down in the corner under pressure from his opposite number 22-0.
Bridport restarted the game but with their follow up to the kick off was slow, Ben was able to run at their 3/4s and with the Bridport tackles falling short, it wasn't until the fullback stopped him 5m out in the corner that he finally got brought to ground. Great support play from George and Zach, saw George clear the ruck out and Zach picking the ball up and going round underneath the posts 29-0. HT
Swans ran the changes at half time with Arda coming in at second row and Aiden coming for a half on the wing.
Bridport started the second half brightly putting Swans under pressure but a break out of defence from Jonny got the Swans in behind the Bridport defence and the Swans backs were able to get them in Bridport 22. From the ensuing rucks Ben was able to go over the whitewash and touchdown for the first try of the second half 36-0.
With the second half becoming more even and a hard fought affair Bridport were looking more dangerous and some fine tackling from Arda and Oliver saw the Bridports attacks failing to cros the line. From one of the attacks from Bridport Swans was able to counter attack and get themselves into the Bridport half. The next few phases of play saw Aiden pin his ears back for the corner but some good Bridport defence saw him get tackled into touch short of the line. From the following Bridport line out saw a loose ball and Troy was able to pick up and drive over for a score out wide 41-0.
With Swans on top more substitutes were made and Swans kept taking it to Bridport with the forwards taking short balls keeping the pressure on Bridport with Swans applying pressure in the forwards, the ball got out to Jonny at fly half and some fleet footwork got him over the line to dot down 46-0.
From the restart Bridport went after the Swans and after a good spell of pressure they managed to get a few quick phases of play together and a good break down the blind side saw them drive over in the corner for the last play of the game 46-5.
A good solid display recognising chances and getting the ball wide when needed.
Stiffer opposition next week boys...Sherborne away, so a good test of how far you've progressed.
