Fantastic Pirate Tour to Devon

By Gina Gynes

The u14 Swans travelled to Oakhampton in Devon over the weekend for their first 'tour'.
It was a very, very hot weekend...we were not expecting temperatures like we had ...over 25 degrees was the first weekend of October!! Hotter than most of August!

Everyone in the tour party entered the team spirit of the Pirate theme brilliantly... all of the outfits were amazing...obviously none of us will ever forget Ashleys wonderful 'lady Pirate'...definately deserved the overall prize! The whole 'inflatable parrot' game was a constant laugh for everyone, great idea Jon. And I believe most parrots were looked after very well and remain in their owners care ready for the next 'shiver me timbers' call!

Steve was pleased with the training session he ran at the Oakhampton Rugby club...all the team worked really hard in scorching sun and kept their focus on what they were doing even though they were probably wishing that at that precise moment they were on the beach!! Certainly some parents were!

Paintballing was EXTREMELY hot, pretty scary at times but SO much fun!!
All the boys put 100% effort into all the games, particularly enjoying 'splatting' the blond girl and bald guy from the 'stag' group!
Rachel turned into a demon once she had a gun in her hand ( ask Sam ! ).
And all the other adults who joined in turned into 13 year olds again!!
It was a brilliant laugh and everyone had a tale to tell by the end of 5 games, as well as some nasty bruises!

Whilst we were paintballing four dads went to the Exeter v Saracens game, where they had a very civilised afternoon, drinking cold beer , cheering their favourite team and not having to worry about having someone jump out in front of them and splatting them in paint!

Saturday evening was when 'The Betty Cottles Inn' was completely invaded by Pirates of all shapes and sizes...fantastic array of costumes by EVERYONE...WELL DONE ME HEARTIES!! Also a team quiz went on with a fair mixture of Rugby, general knowledge and pirate questions. Congratulations again to the winning ' shiver me answers' team.

The sunday was pack up and head off for the first match of the season against a very strong Newton Abbott team. The club welcomed us all and put up with random calls of 'shiver me timbers' ringing around and the lovely referee was even told he had 'the legs of a woman'and still ran the game with no bias! (For a full match report from Steve look on the report section on this website!) But as a supporter/parent watching the boys 48-19 COMPLETE TEAM performance all I can say is AWESOME!

And so the weekend was over...extremely tired people all round...did any boys or girls who were not driving home manage to stay awake the whole journey?

It was a brilliant, fun weekend, where we were all pretty full on but still found moments to 'chill' and enjoy a beer or two around the tents while the boys played pool/ manhunt/ cards etc.

Thanks to you ALL for making the Swans u-14 Devon Tour absolutely the best.. I will try and add some piccys to this page a.s.a.p.
All thats left to say is 'Where are we going next?'

Where next?
